FilipinoCupid: The Go-to Dating Site for Filipino

Being a website that hosts up to 3.5 million users worldwide over 15 years, it is not hard to see why FilipinoCupid is such a successful and popular dating site. Formerly known as Filipina Heart, it is created and operated by the Cupid Media which was developed by developers behind AsianDating, Muslima, and PinkCupid, who are well-known to host a respectful portfolio of different niche dating sites. FilipinoCupid caters to matching Filipinos to people from Western backgrounds. It is designed to bring Western citizens to find their soulmate.  

Member Composition

FilipinoCupid has over a million users from the United States alone, and there are 3,500 daily logins, which suggests that the site is very active indeed. There are more male (60%) than female users (40%) though. With over 3.5 million users worldwide, you have plenty of opportunities to find the love of your life if you are a man from the western countries because most of the female users come from the Philippines. Most male users come from the United States and European countries. Most female users are between 25 to 45, whereas the male counterparts are between 35 to 55. While there are hardly any women who have a premium membership, most men do, which shows that men are proactive on this site. Still, more women have verified badges than men.

Signing up is a straightforward process here. You merely need to provide your first name, gender, age, email address, and password. From there, you will be greeted with a dashboard where you will receive a pop-up asking you to upload your profile picture. Of course, you do not have to upload a photo immediately. You can skip this process by clicking the “X” button at the upper-right corner. You will receive another pop-up asking you to write a profile heading, a paragraph about yourself, as well as what you look for in a partner. Again, you can always skip this step by the “X” button. 

This is perhaps the shortest registration process compared to similar websites. Many others would bombard you with mandatory questions that would take you a lot more time to set up a profile. Signing up in FilipinoCupid takes less than five minutes, and you do not have to upload your profile photo or provide additional information. You can also join via Facebook and import your personal information from there, making the registration process even quicker. 

Messaging other users

Navigating through the website, you will notice that you can hover over a profile photo in the member search. You will then see five small icons at the bottom. They are: view profile, message user, send a heart, and add to your favorite. You do not need to pay to view users’ profiles, send them hearts, or add them to your list of favorites. However, you need to purchase a subscription plan to message other users, which is similar to other dating websites operated by Cupid Media. Still, replying to messages is free. 

FilipinoCupid cares about its users’ safety. So, they allow their users to block other users or even report them. Both the “Block User” and “Report Abuse” are accessible in every chat box and user profile. They are at the left sidebar of the profile. 

FilipinoCupid features advanced search as well. That way, you can narrow down your search. Unfortunately, the filters details also vary depending on your membership. Still, there are enough criteria to work with even for free users. They can search using cupid tags, by tweaking their matching preferences or browsing different categories of popular topic search, or by customizing the essential personal information to refine the search results. There are some convenient features accessible on the left sidebar such as “my matches,” “most popular users,” “profiles with latest photo uploads,” “users around my area,” and “new members.” Alternatively, you can browse photos uploaded by Filipino women on the Filipina Bikini photo gallery and the Glamorous Filipinas photo gallery. 

Profile Quality

When the “About me” and “Person I am looking for” sections are filled out, the profiles on FilipinaCupid provide quite sufficient information. The profile layout is pretty simple. The profile photo is on the left, and relevant information is on the right. The latter includes education, children, religion, and occupation. There is also a green circle that tells you if you match their preferences. If you see a red cross, then it’s not a match. Right below is the user’s photo gallery. 

More details are at the bottom section of the user’s profile, right below the member’s “Overview” section that displays their written paragraph. Here, you can find information such as appearance, lifestyle, background, cultural values, hobbies, and interests. Further below lies a personally written paragraph detailing what kind of person are they willing to date. 

Sticking to communicating with users with verified badges can save you from being scammed, as such badge can only be earned when the user completes the verification process. If you pay for a premium subscription plan, you will also receive a symbol on your profile. It is worth noting that profile photos are visible for everyone, even free users. They can view other member’s profiles and send a heart, but that is pretty much it. You can always change your profile details later, and you should as many member’s profiles are detailed and are regularly updating. 

Membership Details

As mentioned earlier, signing up requires either your email or your Facebook account. You have control over your account, and you can deactivate your account temporarily or permanently, as well as cancel your membership. 

To delete your account, simply go to your profile setting and click “To switch your profile off on FilipinoCupid, click here” located at the bottom of the page. You will then get redirected to the next page, – there you can state a reason for your account deletion and provide feedback (completely optional) before entering your password twice to confirm.

You can reinstate your account whenever you wish. To do that, simply login into the site and filling out the short Request Membership Reactivation form.

If you have subscribed to FilipinoCupid premium membership, you can cancel your membership whenever you want. You still get to enjoy the remainder of the active subscription period until the end of the billing cycle. As for refunds, they will only be possible if you have not used any of the services of the premium membership. 

Mobile App

FilipinoCupid has a mobile app, but it does not have any additional features. Unfortunately, even with its clear and simplistic contact buttons and design, the app is inefficient in bringing members together compared to its website counterpart. This is because of its search function, which rarely refreshes and all results display in a linear layout. Plus, they are not short entries. They show the profile photos of the members, which take up almost the whole screen. It can be very tedious to keep scrolling all the way down every time to see one more profile. Moreover, when you have interacted with a member(put them on your favorite list or sent them a heart), their profile remains at the same place in the search results. 

Design and Usability

FilipinoCupid looks simplistic and features a well-designed interface that makes it very easy to navigate through. Keeping to its brand colors of white and salmon red, the site is pleasing to the eye. The tabs and labels seen on every part of the website make navigation through different contact and search features a breeze. The sidebars contain more features such as message inbox details and search filters. There are also ads on the other tabs. 

Free vs. Paid Services

As a free user, you have access to basic matching and communicate with paying members if they text you first. You can also send a heart to anyone to indicate that you are interested in them. Overall, it’s usable but still limiting, not to mention that you see ads all the time. 

Upgrading to a premium membership, you will have access to instant messenger, send and receive messages. Speaking of messages, they will also be translated into your language automatically. The ads will go away. If you want to stalk around on the website, you can do so by hiding your profile and browse anonymously. Premium membership also allows you to have more space on your profile page so you can express yourself even more. Your profile will also display above other members in addition to getting a VIP profile highlighting. Matchmaking will be more accurate thanks to the advanced matching algorithms. 

Comparing prices

There are two types of membership you can get: gold and platinum. For the gold membership, a one-month subscription plan will be $34.99. The 3-month subscription will be 69.98$ ($23.33 a  month), and the one-year subscription plan costs $139.99 ($11.67 a month). The platinum membership costs $39.99 for one month, $79.98 for three months, and $159.99 a year. The monthly rate is $39.99, $26.66, and $13.33 a year respectively. 

Of course, you will get billed in one payment. The monthly rate is there for the ease of comparison. Overall, the pricing is fairly reasonable. You can pay via credit card, PayPal, Paysafecard, or online bank transfer. 

Security and Privacy

Safety-wise, FilipinoCupid is not 100% secure, just like any other dating website. Its users are expected to be careful of scammers and fake profiles, which is why users can block and report people easily. As for security features, FilipinoCupid complies to privacy policies in the Philippines. All your information will remain confidential, except for the things you share with other users. FilipinoCupid also asks its users to fill out the International Marriage Broker Regulation Act form to help protect its member’s safety. 

Is It Any Good? 

Overall, Filipino is a safe and decent dating site for Western users to meet Filipino women. There are plenty of Filipino women on this site that have verified badges on their profiles, which means that they have verified their identities and will be genuine users, not scammers.
